My name is Dr. Leah Bortnick PT, DPT and I am based in Bedford, TX. Originally from Philly, I completed my physical therapy training at Creighton University in Omaha, ranked one of the top 10 programs in the country. I came to Texas because this is where my spice shop is, great Afro-Caribbean dancing lives, and the BBQ is off the chart.
Prior to pursuing physical therapy I volunteered as a disaster relief planner for 10 years with a veteran led non-profit. This is where I felt the call to serve as a humanitarian and as a physical therapist, willing and able to serve my brothers and sisters who served.
Mild traumatic brain injuries (also known as concussions) are not uncommon in the veteran and first responder community, so it’s important to have someone to go to who will listen with empathy, transparency, and support at the heart of physical therapy treatment.
Research in concussion rehabilitation is constantly evolving. That’s why I joined an interprofessional, international concussion consortium called Project ECHO to exchange updates on the latest evidence-based medicine.
